Feedback is an integral part of academia, playing an essential role in the review of educational systems. However, a prevalent challenge faced by many institutions is that of low participation rates amongst their students. The objective of this project is to determine what psychological and motivational factors influence students’ responses to feedback forms. The study aims to explore alternative methods to administer and collect feedback through the means of gamification. Also, determining the optimal gamification approaches to implement the latter within feedback forms. Another objective is to employ artificial intelligence, such as sentiment analysis and data visualisation, to enable universities to review the feedback.
The project reviews psychological literature, gamification models, and optimal survey designs to analyse what might inhibit or foster participation. Through this secondary research, prototypes incorporating gamification into feedback will be developed. These will then be distributed to students via surveys to determine which design elements, game mechanisms, and patterns of interaction results in increased participation. The data collected will then be used to make iterations in the final platform. The findings from this study will be a tested gamification model of educational feedback forms that incorporates conversational AI, sentiment analysis, and informative faculty insights with advanced analytical dashboards, examining the impact on participation levels and feedback quality. The research-based approach ensures that the platform satisfies actual student preferences rather than assumptions, developing a solution that can transform university feedback culture.
The solution developed is a web-based gamified feedback platform that is designed to improve student engagement with various course feedback forms and give the faculty meaningful and actionable insights. This platform will include three profiles: a student, administrative and faculty view. It also includes the options to create, edit, and delete new or existing forms.
